At WZ Packaging in the United Kingdom – a leading manufacturer of flexible packaging materials with a long history – Cervitech recently launched an energy-saving project.
Analysis and adjustment of the printing press
During a visit to the production site, Cervitech conducted a comprehensive analysis of a 1992 Rotomec gravure press. As part of this process, the entire drying system and air circulation were readjusted—an adjustment that had not been performed since the press was originally installed.
Reduction of gas and energy consumption
With this modification, WZ Packaging reduces the energy consumption of both the printing press and the afterburner. In the original setup, the system supplied an excess of air with a low concentration of solvents. Consequently, additional gas was required to ensure the process ran correctly, which unnecessarily increased gas consumption.
By precisely readjusting the system, WZ Packaging significantly reduces gas consumption. At the same time, electricity consumption also decreases, allowing the company to save energy on two fronts.
First step in a broader improvement process
This project marks the start of a broader sustainability initiative at WZ Packaging. Over the coming period, Cervitech will implement various optimizations that will structurally reduce gas consumption and further increase the energy efficiency of the production process.
